Viola Nadyne Price (Jackson) was born November 1, 1949 to Naydine and Henry Jackson in Columbus, Ohio. She was the youngest of four children; Henry W. Jackson Jr; Mary E. Jackson and Harry (Vera) Jackson, Viola was also a mother of 3 children, Rhonda, Thurman (Kathy), Kevin (Deanna) Pleasant. She was a grandmother of 5 beautiful grandchildren, Rashad, Shanika, Zhane Pleasant, Dashon Redman, Javaiha Pleasant and a host of nieces and nephews.

Viola was an employee at Children’s Hospital for 28 years where she gained many friends. She attended St Aloysis Catholic Church. At the young age of 12 she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She rededicated her life to Christ at The Potters House of God on January 12, 2012.

Her official name may have been Viola Price, but her family and close friends never called her Viola. She was called by many heartfelt names. Her children greeted her in their own individual way. Rhonda’s name for her mom was “cutie”. Kevin called her “Mom Benis, her nieces called her “Auntie Dizzle”, “Aunt DeDe” or just plain “DeDe”. Her close friends called her “Mrs. Vi” but we couldn’t leave out Buggy, his nickname for her was “Whispers or “Raspy Vi”.

DeDe loved her hobbies. Back in the day it was known for her to be seen with her bag full of yarn to keep her hands busy while she sat around with a group of friends laughing and cracking jokes. She would be known to dance and have a great time with her learned and perfected dance called “the snake’. Her cooking would draw crowds, but you should know this: She was a Jackson and they can cook.

During Christmas time you knew to get you Rum Cake order in before the deadline because her Rum Cakes were “drunkly” good. Do you remember her cabbage rolls? She loved her family and friends and would be a great person to to for single mother advice. Even though she was ill she didn’t allow her sickness to keep her from smiling and enjoying her grandkids and children “Vi DeDe” would always be more concerned about the family and friends than she was about herself. This is who she really was and will be to all of us. The calmness that she possessed was a gift brought and left with us all to remember her by along with the smile.
