Ms. Barbara Jean Saddler was born on January 5, 1954 in Bradford, PA. She is the daughter of Dr. Rev Thomas James and Lillian Catherine (Robinson) Saddler Sr.

Barbara received her BA from Wilberforce University with a Summa Cum Laude distinction along with other academic honors. She was a past president of the Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc. Beta Chapter at Wilberforce University and she earned her master’s degree in Black Studies at The Ohio State University.

Barbara is a retiree of American Electric Power, having previous jobs at Heap Program, CMAOCO, and the Community Action Agency prior. In her free time, she was a volunteer for the Franklin County Democratic Committee.

Barbara loved current political events and history. She had superior knowledge of how the political events unfolded and the procedures within government. She believed in taking pictures, so she can tell her journey to others. So much that there is a written and audio archive of her OSU journey held within the archives of The Ohio State University Library.

Barbara was a wrestling fan; her favorite wrestler was Rick Flair the Nature Boy. Music was her first love from classical to gospel, and later rap; she loved them all. Barbara had a voice of a songbird; a listener would be brought to tears listening to her beautiful voice. Her favorite past times consisted of watching various sports along with having a passion to write notes of inspiration daily.

Barbara’s dream was to get her doctorate at the Ohio State University, but unfortunately her dreams fell short. She was an Ohio State University Buckeye Booster, supporter of The Best Damn Band In The Land (TBDBITL). She also attended numerous OSU football games both locally and away. She loved OSU so much that she gave herself the nickname “Buckeye Barb”.

Barbara lived her life with laughs, songs, smiles, joy, tears, and hard work. Growing up she had so much wisdom that our parents would call her a walking encyclopedia.

Barbara Jean Saddler or Buckeye Barb will be missed deeply, no one being able to fill the void she has left.

Barbara is survived by 8 siblings, Ethel Macy Lee Saddler, Thomas James (Yong) Saddler Jr., Jerdean Saddler, Mary Louise (William) Shade, Rev Willie George Saddler, Cleophas Henry Saddler, Lillie Bea (Alan) Head, and Joseph Lee Saddler; nieces, Marian (Frank deceased) Robinette, Keisha LaVette Johnson, and Olivia Shade; nephews, Christopher Scheitlin and Thomas James III; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Rev Thomas James and Lillian Catherine (Robinson) Saddler Sr.

To the Saddler Family,
My most sincere condolences.
Barb & I worked together for many years with AEP. We found endless topics to discuss and many times we were laughing until we cried. Barb was a great friend, coworker & fellow Buckeye fan. Our last conversation was so enjoyable; I will treasure it.
I pray for your comfort during this time.
Rest In Peace my friend.
