Nancy Burkes was born on March 28, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to Williams P. Hairston Sr. and Ella Hairston.
Nancy was raised in North Columbus. She graduated from East High School. She married the love of her life, the late Vincent Burkes in December 1969. They raised their only son Darryl Burkes. Nancy retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield after 20 years. She then worked for Harden Home for 5 years. Once she retired, she took care of her husband, loved to gamble, play bingo, travel, cook, bake and of course she’s going to talk her stuff. Nancy was so loving and had such a big heart. She loved her family including her fur babies. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James Vincent Burkes; brothers, Raymond Hairston, William P. Hairston, Jr., Rickey Hairston, Sr., Kenneth Hairston, and Norman Hairston, Sr.; sisters, Lillian Shaw, and Janet Carreker. She is survived by her son, Darryl Burkes Sr.; grandchildren, Ashley Burkes, Tracey (Mitchel) Tompkins, Kelley Burkes, and Darryl Burkes, Jr.; siblings, Sandra Hairston, Joyce Grahm, Audrey Hairston, an Patty Hairston; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation 1:00 PM and Funeral Service 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
