Nannie L. Thornton

Nannie L. Thornton made her peaceful transition from her earthly life to everlasting life on April 29, 2022.

Nannie was born August 25, 1939 to the late Andrew Radcliff, Sr and Aileen Radcliff in Columbus, Ohio.

Nannie was educated in the Columbus Public School System and attended Linden McKinley High School. She went on to become an employee with Columbus Public Schools, where she retired as a beloved bus driver. Her students loved her dearly and she was affectionately coined as the “Best Dressed Bus Driver” by her peers.

Nannie’s life was full of love, laughter, and she was known for being fair and a peace maker. As a community advocate, she served as a member of the Sharon Woods Association. She was reliable and would literally give you the shirt off her back. As a confidant you could tell her your deepest secrets and know that they were in safe hands. Nannie was an excellent    storyteller, and you could always count on her to know what was going on in the world because she loved her some CNN.

Nannie absolutely adored her children and grandchildren and she instilled in them the value of family. She truly cherished the quality time she spent with her family and friends. During her free time, if she wasn’t shopping, you could find her in the kitchen cooking a well-seasoned dish or making some of her amazing baked goods. She also enjoyed traveling and going on cruises, especially with her sisters. Nannie was a loving and caring person, with a heart of gold.

Nannie was preceded in death by her parents Andrew Radcliff and Aileen Radcliff; husband, Johnny Thornton; daughter, Tina Wallace; brothers, Andrew Radcliff, Jr, James Allen       Radcliff, Willie Lee Radcliff, Teddy Radcliff, Paul Radcliff, Preston Radcliff, Clarence “Boat” Radcliff; sisters, Freda Radcliff, Susan Smith, Carolyn Treadway, Andrea “Niecy” Collins, Geneva “Eva” Anglin; and beloved dog: Riza

Nannie leaves to cherish her memory; her precious daughters, Karla Thornton, Karmen Coles, and Terri Thornton; son, Stanley Thornton; grandchildren, Keena Wallace, Bryce Jackson, Brandin Jackson, Stanley Thornton, Jr, Dustin Rowe, and Sherita Thornton; great grandchildren, Stanley Thornton, III, Sincere Thornton, and Cameira Briley; brothers, Carl (Hilda) Radcliff and  Muhammad (Sharon) Radcliff; sisters, Ruth Lipkin, Mary Ann (Cecil) Manns, Carol (Arthur) Gray, and Arneta “Ruby” Radcliff; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, close relatives, and friends. A special thank you to Taylor Springs wonderful hospice team.

Her family and friends will miss Nannie and her ability to always put a smile on their faces and to keep it real. We pray her spirit lives on in each of us.

Visitation 1:00pm and Funeral 2:00pm Saturday, May 7, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.
