The last Rant of an Angry Black Man was written on Wednesday, April 29, 2020. Nathaniel A. Angel, blessed this world with 67 years of wit, humor and unapologetic Blackness.
Born on October 8, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio to Rosetta K. Angel and William Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Taunda Angel. Nathaniel was a proud graduate of East High School Class of 1970. He attended the University of Notre Dame on an Academic Scholarship but walked on to the illustrious football team and played for two seasons. He was known for his WNDU radio show that was a celebration of Black music. Nathaniel married Vanessa Parker the day after graduating from Notre Dame with a Bachelors in Government. They raised two children together, Nathaniel II and Angela Angel in South Bend, Indiana where his knack for numbers landed him in banking at 1st Source. During his eighteen years there, he remained committed to bettering his community. Nathaniel led a team to finance the College Football Hall of Fame, helped provide financing for many minority businesses, was active in the Urban League, NAACP, and other civic organizations. He was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Nathaniel returned to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio to work on the 2004 Presidential Election. He loved politics and climbed the ranks of the Ohio Democratic Party becoming the African American Caucus Director. He was heavily involved in the Columbus Civilian Community Board and Ohio Black Expo to name a few. Nathaniel spent his latter years traveling between Indiana and Ohio where he maintained strong community ties. He also lived part time in Prince George’s County Maryland, where he helped his daughter run for and win a seat in the Maryland House of Delegates. Nathaniel spent the final years of his life dedicated to uplifting and empowering the Black community. He truly embodied the belief “I am my brother’s keeper”.

I’m deeply saddened by the news of Nate’s passing. I met him in Columbus during the 2004 Kerry campaign for President. Nate tirelessly invested his political acumen and time in strengthening the OH Democratic Party. He opened eyes to the ways to establish inclusion and unify the party. His voice and energy will be missed. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to all members of Nate’s family and close friends.
I want to wish the family of Nathaniel Angel my deepest condolences…
A fine gentleman and servant leader. He had a passion for community and was earnest in pursuing opportunity for others. A great discussion partner and enriched our conversations with grace and humanity. Will be missed greatly!

Condolences to the Angels.
Was interested in Mr. Angel’s obituary in the Dispatch and fascinated by his life and contributions to making the community a better place for all people. He passed too early but left big footprints.
I was deeply saddened and shocked hearing of my friend Nathaniel’s passing. He and I were childhood friends and attended East High School together – playing Tiger football. As adults we went our separate ways, but later found each other on Face Book where we shared our political views and love for family and community. I was hoping to visit with him at some point in the near future. I send to all the family members my sincere condolences. The Rantings of the Angry Black Man will not be forgotten. Peace and Comfort
I just learned about Nathaniel’s passing today. I’m still in shock.
I met Nathaniel in 1970 at Notre Dame as part of the Freshmen class. I was just a regular kid from the Bronx, but Nathaniel was A FOOTBALL STAR, that resided a few doors down from me in Alumni Hall. I remember his radio show on WNDU and his call sign Angel. He was Awesome.
I left Notre Dame in 1973 and lost touch with my UND friends. In 2019 while attempting to contact anyone from ND, I found Angel via Facebook. I read and enjoyed many of his Rants, and one day hoped see him in person in Columbus. My condolences to his family. SIP my friend.
Dear Angela Angel,
