The Life of Angeline L. Gordon
Angeline was born April 27, 1926, in Columbus, Ohio. She is the fourth child of five, of parents Andrew and Laura Coleman. She attended Central High School and lived on the Westside, known to most as the “bottoms”. Although her early years were a struggle, her determination and resilience molded her into a strong mother and woman of God.
In her younger years, she loved street skating, making her own clothes, dancing, and baseball. Because of her skill and ability to hit the ball out of the park, she was always picked first.
Angeline held many jobs over the years, and after more than twenty-five years at Bricker and Eckler Law Firm, she retired. Not letting retirement slow her down, she continued to work into her mid-eighties at the Ohio Thrift Store. She was known not only for her exceptional work ethic but also for her positive influence.
Her Christian journey started as a young woman, and in 1993, her relationship with Jesus Christ took off after connecting with Columbus Christian Center. Within these thirty-four years, Angeline faithfully served in ministry as a Greeter, Intercessor, on the Mercy Team, and in God’s Hand. As one of the “mothers” of the church, she is fondly known as “Mother Gordon” and “Momma”. With her exuberant praise, she could be heard from one end of the church to the other. She believed laughter and daily bible readings extended her walk with God to ninety-nine faith-filled years.
Never to be forgotten, she is predeceased by parents Andrew and Laura Coleman; daughter, Phyllis Jones; sons, Lawrence Jones and Keith L. Lewis.
Angeline is survived by her children, Joyce Crawford, Barbara (Eugene) Anteh, Sherry (Kenny) Sims, Eloise (Wayne) Coach, Tina Lewis, Toni Lewis, Phillip (Joan) Jones, James Arthur Lewis, Raymond (Betty) Lewis, Bill (Sarah) Coleman and James Allen White; forty two grandchildren, sixty-seven great grandchildren, and fifty-six great-great grandchildren totaling one hundred sixty-five; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
