Annie Laura Harrell was born on April 4, 1947, in Ashland, Mississippi, the fourth child of the late Ambus Ross and Arvelce (Barber) Ross. She grew up with her five siblings: James, Mary, Johnnie, Joe, and William.
Annie gave her life to Christ at an early age and sang in her church choir. She enjoyed singing and had one of the most beautiful voices. Growing up, she enjoyed helping in the kitchen, singing and dancing with her sister while preparing meals.
Annie graduated from Old Salem High School. After a few years, she married her first husband. They moved to New York, where she and their son stayed for a short time. Annie and her son then moved to Ohio.
In Ohio, Annie served as a Girl Scout leader for the Girl Scouts of America, where she had the opportunity to guide and encourage young girls.
Annie attended nursing school and became a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), later becoming an EKG technician.
Annie soon met and married her second husband, Wayman Franklin Harrell. She worked at Mount Carmel West for 34 years before retiring. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, relaxing, reading, going to church, and visiting different shops with her sister.
Those who knew her will remember her love for God, her beauty, kindness, sense of humor, and, above all, her love for her son and family. They will also remember her nickname, "Sweet," which was given to her as a child by her dad.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Ambus and Arvelce Ross; her husband, Wayman Franklin Harrell; his son, Anthony Harrell; her brothers, Johnnie Ross and Joe Ross; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Ross; and her brother-in-law, James Broomfield.
Those She Leaves to Cherish Her Memory
Her son, Tracey Beard; her grandsons, Tracey Jr. and Jaylen Beard; and the children she inherited through her second marriage, Wayman Franklin Harrell Jr., Sabrina D. Harrell, and Da Nita S. Arnold. She also leaves a host of grandchildren; her siblings, James (Ruth) Ross, Mary Broomfield, and William Ross; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, coworkers, church members, and friends.
We love you and will miss you, Sweet. We will cherish precious memories of you always.
