Anthony “Tony,” also known as “Happy,” was born on December 19, 1956, in Columbus, North Carolina to Bernard Edward Hill and Joyce Elizabeth Hill. As the son of a military veteran, Tony traveled extensively with his family, experiencing various parts of the world before they eventually settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
During his teenage years, Tony attended schools within the Philadelphia School District. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. Tony began working at the age of 16 as a Butcher at Tims neighborhood grocery store where he took pride in serving his community. In time, Tony discovered his true passion, driving, which became his lifelong career. He worked as a Bus Operator for New Jersey Transit before continuing his career with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).
On September 19, 1992, Tony married his best friend and the love of his life, Patricia M. Hill. Together, they built a strong and loving family foundation that remained at the center of Tony’s life. After relocating to Gahanna, Ohio in 2008 in pursuit of greater opportunities for his family, Tony carried his passion for driving and continued his career with Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) where he dedicated 16 years of service before retiring in 2024.
Tony valued his independence and was often seen as a man who appreciated peace and quiet. Yet, at his core, he was deeply devoted to his family and treasured the time he spent with them. He adored his wife. He found joy and comfort in listening to smooth jazz. A dedicated and loving presence, Tony played an instrumental role in raising two of his granddaughters, Kiley and Sameeyah, leaving a lasting and meaningful impact on their lives.
In retirement, Tony embraced life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed watching his 86-inch tv, shopping on TikTok, listening to his favorite music, taking the occasional trip to the casino, and taking pride in keeping his car spotless—often having it washed several times a week. Known for his familiar phrases like “what you doin?” “You not driving my car,” and his loving words-” you look so pretty,” “hey baby,” and “it’s just you and me!” Tony’s voice and spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
