The Lord welcomed Mother A. Marie Brown home on, May 3, 2026, to be with Him where she suffers no more. She was born in Holly Springs, MS on August 8, 1939 to Hamilton Wells Sr. and Amatullah Z. Salaam (Rosie Lee Durham). She was 86 years old when the Lord called her name while she slept peacefully in no pain. Mother Marie moved at the young age of seven years old to Mansfield with her Mother and L.T. Durham, the father who raised her.
She was united in marriage to Loving Husband Elder Sidney S. Brown Sr. for 61 years. They did everything together. She was a very special lady, sweet, kindhearted, loving, that would always greet you with a big smile.
She Loved her entire family, and loved planning Family Gatherings and Vacations. She loved everyone and was loved by so many that her Children shared her with others calling her Mom, Auntie and Grandma!!! She called them all her Sons and Daughters. She also sent out Good Morning Greetings to over 200 Family and Friends every day to uplift them, until she became ill. She enjoyed receiving their messages as well.
Mother Marie accepted Christ at a very young age. Her love for the Lord grew stronger as she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Mother’s Board, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Youth and Young Adult Leader…she was very passionate about the Youth and their growth. She printed the Church Bulletins every Sunday for several years. Coordinator for the Candlelight Services done every January to raise money for the Geneva Cline-Cash Scholarship Fund for Shiloh Graduates. She assisted her sister-n-law Martha Brown with the organization of the Busy Bee Children’s Choir. She was the Founder of Women’s Heart Talk of Shiloh as well.
Mother Marie with the help of her God-Daughter Janice English, gave out 530 Bibles to Individuals she knew throughout the city of Mansfield and out of town. The Bibles were in honor of her husband, Elder Sidney Brown Sr. This was a great joy to her.
She was employed at Westinghouse, the Girl Scouts of America as a Secretary, and also became a Girl Scout Leader because of her daughters, from Brownies up to Cadets, also Madison Day Care and later had a Home Daycare. Mother Marie was a Top Sales Leader for Tupperware and her team was called the Liberty Bells. As a result, she won a car and many trips in and out of the Country.
Mother Marie made great memories that will continually be shared by her Children, Tami Holley, Kimberly Brown, Sidney (Lisa) Brown all of Mansfield, OH. She truly loved all her 12 Grandchildren with all her heart, Jason Sr., DiAnte’ Sr., Delmar, Emmanuel, Zakiyyah, April, Stephanie, Isaiah, Chastity, Charity, Sidney Leighann, Lorenzo, Tracy Chukumah, Courtney, and Kimani. Her Sisters, Hazel Spencer, Mary (Wayne) Jones…. Brothers; Hamilton Wells Jr. and Andrew Wells. She had 27 Great-Grandchildren, 8 Great-Great grandchildren, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins that she loved dearly. God-children are Janice English, Teena Gamble, Desiree Franklin, Shenique Cameron, and Aubreyana Johnson. Special Friends were: Cynthia O’Neal and Sandra Whitfield.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Father and Mother, A bonus daughter, Louisa Merchant who was a Foreign Exchange Student from Africa; Godson, Nathaniel Moore Jr.; Sisters; Lillie Mae Askew, L.V. Brooks, Gertrude Gause, Lee Esther Anderson; Brother; Porter (Sonny) Durham.
Family and Friends, if your name was not mentioned or written in the program, this has been a trying time for us. Please charge it to our head and not our hearts. But know we love you dearly.
