In Loving Memory of Benita Melton
September 9, 1963 - May 3, 2026
On May 3, 2026, Benita Melton went home to be with the Lord after a long illness.
Benita was born on September 9, 1963, in Mansfield, Ohio, at Mansfield General Hospital, to Bettie Walker and Lonzo McCrary of Mansfield, Ohio. She graduated from Crestline High School in 1981.
Shortly after graduating, Bentia moved to Georgia, where she began working in security for famous entertainers, including Peabo Bryson. After working in security, she began working at a tobacco factory, where she remained employed for more than 25 years. Following the closing of the factory, she went on to become a substitute teacher.
Benita later returned to Ohio to be with her family and friends before eventually moving to Andalusia, Alabama, where she peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home.
Bentia is survived by her mother, Bettie Walker; her sisters, Sonya, Linda, Marylou, Carrie, and Tamika; her brothers, Karie Walker Jr. and Moff Walker; and her nieces and nephews, Andre, Gwendolyn, Pamela, Shawn, Ricardo, Benetia, Keith, Kavon, Brianna (Yahya Abdul-Hafeez), and Yasmaine, along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives, and friends.
Benita was preceded in death by her Father, Lonzo McCrary; Step-Father Karie Walker; her sisters, Diane, Regina, and Karen; and her nephew, Charles Brown Jr.
Benita was known for her sassy personality, contagious laugh, and deep love for her family. Her warmth and spirit touched everyone who knew her, and she will be truly and deeply missed. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
