Bettie Jean Mathews

With hearts full of gratitude, love, and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife, Bettie J. Mathews, affectionately known as Bettie Boo or MawMaw. She took her final bow-unafraid and with an open heart-surrounded by her loving husband and daughters who cherished her deeply, on September 2, 2026, at the age of 74.

Bettie Boo was a woman of extraordinary beauty, strength, and grace. She lived fully, loved fiercely, and carried herself with a spirit that filled every room she entered. She was indeed a true force of nature: unyielding, steadfast, loving, and unforgettable.

Her love, laughter, lessons, and unwavering strength will remain with her family always, becoming a legacy we will carry forward with love, strength, and gusto.

She was a devoted daughter, sister, and wife to Mark Mathews, her husband of 27 years; a proud and guiding mother to her two daughters: Christel and Che-Che (Big Mike), and stepson, Mark Mathews, Jr.; a doting grandmother to Mikey "Mater" Davis; and a generous friend to many whose lives were better because she was part of them.

Survived by her father: Jimmie Kidd; Niece: Chenise Crump; Nephews: Darius, Kendell and Evan Crump.

In Loving Memory: Mother, Mamie Jones; Sister, Geraldine Evans; Brother, Slyvester (Sly) Williamson. Family members: Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, cousins that are too many to name.
