Beverly Jean Modena

February 1, 1933 — March 15, 2026

Beverly Jean Bell, born February 1, 1933, in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, in Port Clinton, Ottawa County, Ohio. She was 93 years old and a longtime resident of Port Clinton.


Beverly was the beloved daughter of Quincey A. Bell and Kathleen S. Smith (Bell), and the cherished sister of Quincy Philmore (Jim) Bell Sr. She dedicated much of her working life to Children’s Hospital, where her compassion and steady presence touched countless families.


Beverly married twice—first to Richard Edward Hudson Coles, and later to Fred Modena. She was a devoted mother to Derrick Lee Coles Sr., Andrea Jean Coles, and Martin Fredrick Modena. Her love for her children and grandchildren was the heart of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Quincey A. Bell and Kathleen S. Smith (Bell); her first husband, Richard Edward Hudson Coles; and her daughter, Andrea Jean Coles.


She is survived by her sons Derrick Lee Coles Sr.and Martin Fredrick Modena; her grandchildren Christina L. Coles, Shawn L. Coles, Derrick L. Coles Jr., and Courey Aigner McLemore; as well as her great‑grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.


In her final years, Beverly was lovingly supported by her partner, Ralph Lyles, whose companionship and care brought comfort and peace to her life.


Beverly will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, and the deep love she held for her family.


Her legacy lives on in the generations who follow her.
