Bonitta Marie “Bonnie” Fowler was born on April 4, 1954, in Columbus, Ohio, to Lugretta Johnson and the late Fred Johnson. She peacefully entered eternal rest on August 24, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Fred Johnson, Sr., and her brother, Fred Johnson, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Lugretta Johnson; husband, Larry Fowler; brother, Jeffery Johnson; daughter, Monica Johnson; son, Daniel (Miriam) Fowler; grandchildren, Kendric Johnson, Maleek, and Kaila Marshall; and Zion Fowler. She also leaves behind sister-in-law, Tina Koenig; aunt, Yvonne LoVell; dear friend, Jackie Sullivan; club sisters, Pamela Bailey, Bernitta Dawson, Deborah Dickerson, Janet Ferguson, Glenda Harrison, Jean Hairston, Shirley Hughes, Elaine Mack, Raymonde Strickland, Deborah Sanders, Michelle Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, co-workers, and friends, all of Columbus, Ohio, and beyond.
Bonnie had unwavering faith in God and was an active and devoted member of Rhema Christian Center, where she served in various ministries over the years, including the Video Ministry.
She graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1972, where she studied Intensive Office Education in Stenography. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Office Education Association. Bonnie further developed her skills at Columbus State Community College, earning an Associate Degree in Applied Business, Secretarial Science Technology.
Her professional journey began as an executive secretary for the City of Columbus. She later moved to Nashville, Tennessee, accepting a position as Administrative Assistant for the Tennessee Director of Emergency Management. While in Tennessee, Bonnie met and married Larry Fowler, and they later relocated to Panama City, Florida. Despite circumstances that separated them, fate reunited them decades later, allowing them to remarry and spend her final years together.
In 1994, Bonnie returned to Columbus and began working as a legal assistant at the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease. She was a dedicated and valued team member, working with many attorneys over the years. In her last years, she served as the assistant to the Retired Partners. Bonnie remained at the law firm until her passing.
With a gentle, easy-going spirit and a great sense of humor, Bonnie enjoyed playing cards, bingo, following the lottery, and traveling with her club sisters. Her journeys included over 15 Caribbean and Mediterranean cruises, traveling across the United States from east to west and north to south, as well as international trips to Canada, Europe, China, and Brazil. It was during these trips that the infamous “Bonnie Stories” began.
Bonnie led a life filled with purpose and adventure, radiating a joyful and loving spirit that continues to live on in the hearts and memories of all who loved her.
