Byrd Allen Prillerman III was born on September 13, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Mary Grant Prillerman and the late Byrd Prillerman II. He was the only son born to this union and was dearly loved by his parents.
Byrd received his education through the Columbus Public School system and graduated from West High School. From an early age, he was taught the importance of faith, family, and hard work.
Byrd was employed by Columbus Public Schools where he remained until he retired after 30 years of faithful and dedicated service.
Raised in a Christian home, Byrd accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and was baptized at Bethany Presbyterian Church. As an adult, he united with Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Jerome Ross. There he faithfully served in the Male Chorus, the Senior Usher Board, and the Kitchen Ministry, where he became known for his culinary skills and his "famous Byrd's tea" that many came to enjoy. He remained steadfast in his faith until declining health limited his participation.
A special chapter in Byrd's life began when he met and married the love of his life, Linda Jean Hylton. Together they shared fifty years of love, devotion, and partnership. Through life's joys and challenges, they built a strong and loving home and nurtured a blended family of four sons.
Byrd had a passion for sports and was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also loved fishing and treasured the time spent teaching and sharing that pastime with his grandchildren. Byrd enjoyed life and never met a stranger. Whether attending family reunions, cruising with loved ones, hosting backyard cookouts, or simply spending time with family and friends, his laughter, warm smile, and generous spirit filled every room.
Though he faced a progressive illness with remarkable courage, Byrd never allowed his circumstances to define him. His strength, determination, and unwavering spirit served as an inspiration to all who knew him.
Byrd departed this life leaving behind a legacy of faith, perseverance, love, and family. He cherished his children and grandchildren and had a unique gift for making each one feel special and deeply loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Mary Grant Prillerman and Byrd Prillerman II; his son: Larry Hylton; and his sister: Nancy Prillerman Jones.
Precious memories will forever be cherished by his loving Wife of 50 years: Linda Prillerman; Six Children: Byrd Prillerman IV, Shinda Prillerman (Darla), Eric Clark, Ricky and Carlos Jamar and Shamita (Kelon): Eleven Grandchildren: Taylor, Sumiyyah, Naudea, Aaliyah, Eric Jr., Bailey, James, Sidique, Prasad, Daisia and Dainesha; Great-Grandchildren: Ayden, Junie, Trey, Makia, Mercury, and Aubree; Sisters: Kathy Dodley (Robert), Carmen Jordan, and Toni Booker (Ronald); Brothers-in-Love: Scottie Hylton, Olan Hylton (Starlett), Edward Hylton, and Eric Hylton (Valerie; Aunt: Irene Berger (David); Special Cousins: Lynn Prillerman, William Prillerman (Kim), LaDonna Prillerman and Franklin Prillerman Jr.; Special Friends: Gladys and Norman Cooper, Carl and Lisa Hayes, Elder Larry Price and a great host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and dear friends.
