Carolyn Neal-Slappy

August 2, 1954 — November 4, 2025

Carolyn Denise Slappy-Neal, age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 2, 1954, in Columbus, ohio she lived a life full of warmth, kindness, and an unwavering love for family and friends. A beloved Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she was known for her bright spirit, compassionate heart, and strength. So, with deep love and profound gratitude, we celebrate the life of Carolyn, a woman whose warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion touched every life she encountered.

Carolyn attended Columbus City Schools from an early age, forming friendships and memories that carried her through life. She was the devoted mother of seven children, each of whom she cherished beyond measure. To know Carolyn was to learn a mother who loved fiercely—who made sure each child felt seen, valued, and loved in their own special way.

She dedicated 13 proud years of service to The Ohio State University in Oversight, where she found purpose and connection until her health no longer allowed her to continue. Even as she faced an 11-year battle with breast cancer, Carolyn remained resilient, graceful, and rooted in the joy she found in life. She embraced the things that lifted her spirit—her family, her music, and the documentaries and podcasts that kept her mind engaged and her curiosity alive.

Those who knew her best will forever remember her gift of giving nicknames. If Carolyn had one for you, it meant you were a part of her world, and if she didn’t, well—that meant she liked you even more.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her loving parents, Naomi and Richard Eric Neal Sr.; her granddaughter, Heavenly; her sister, Frances; and her nephews, Antoine and Terry Neal.

She leaves behind a legacy carried forward with love by her children: daughters Andrea and Martina Neal; sons Marvin Darity, Ronald (Charlene), Ricardo, Marlan, and Tyrone Neal; Brothers Richard Jr, Larry, Anthony Neal (Kim), and one Sister Lisa Neal Walton (Frank). She is also survived by her twenty-two grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom will continue to honor her memory through the love, laughter, and values she instilled in them.

Carolyn’s life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and unconditional love. Though she is no longer with us in body, her presence will be felt forever—in every story shared, every smile remembered, and every heart she touched. May her beautiful spirit rest peacefully.
