Charles M. Johnson

Charles Marion Johnson was called home to eternal rest to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 2, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born in Ronceverte, West Virginia on February 21, 1942. He attended Greenbrier High School. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Doris Marie Johnson, a union which lasted 62 beautiful years. Shortly after marriage, the couple relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where they raised three beautiful children, Dedra, Tina and Michael.

For more than 30 years, Charles faithfully served as an employee of Big Bear warehouse. Throughout his life he carried a reputation for integrity, hard work and dependability. Following his retirement in 2007, he devoted even more of his time to the work of the kingdom. For over four decades, he faithfully served as a member of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church. During his time at TRMBCh, he served as chairman of the Deacon Board and he was a devoted Sunday School teacher. Charles was known to tell the best stories, he was also known for his sense of humor and wit.

As a family man, Charles guided wisely and cherished every moment spent with his family. He devoted himself to nurturing and supporting those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Doris Marie Johnson; his parents: Brown M. Johnson and Mable Payne Johnson; his brothers: Samuel Spotts, John Henry Spotts and William Spotts; his sisters: Virginia Boone, Eva Mae Douglas and Mary Hopkins.

Cherishing his memory and celebrating his life are his loving Children: Dedra Scott, Tina (Randy) Saunders and Michael (Cathy) Johnson; Grandchildren: Andre Scott, special granddaughter Deja Scott, Diondre (Cierra) Walker, Jordan Saunders, Dorian Johnson, Azure Scott and Great-Granddaughter: Noni Walker. He is survived by his Sister: Rosa Hairston and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family members and friends who will forever treasure the memories shared with him.

Charles shared special bonds of friendship with Deacon Samuel James, Brother Frank Burton, Brother Steve Hunter, Brother Luther Henson, Brother Maurice Gardner, Deacon Devon Martin (Lil Deac) and his nephew Pete Boone. He was also blessed with the enduring friendship and fellowship of Reverend Dr. Arthur Combest.
