Chase Jian Howard

Chase Jian Howard was born on June 12, 1982, in Columbus, Ohio to Jeffrey and Michelle Howard. He transitioned from this life on August 16, 2026 at the youthful age of 44.

At the age of 11, Chase moved back to Columbus where his love for basketball quickly bloomed (blossomed). He played basketball at Johnson Park, Brookhaven, Northland and Beechcroft. Graduating from Beechcroft High School in 2001. Upon graduation, Chase joined the U.S. Navy. Chase served 4 years in the U.S. Navy, settling in San Diego, California; where he built a career as an experienced rigger. He took great pride in his job and used his knowledge to ensure the safety of his team members daily.

Chase’s charismatic, adventurous spirit was felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was someone who truly cared about people and he never met a stranger. He welcomed everyone with warmth, kindness and his signature brand of “frank and snarky” humor. He made sure that he let the people he loved know how he felt.

Over the last few years, Chase made sure that he was more present as a father and friend to all of his kids. He relocated home to Columbus and reconnected with his daughters that live locally while planning to move his four children from San Diego to Columbus.

Chase loved his people, and his people loved him deeply. He built a family that extended far beyond blood. Friendship meant everything to Chase. While we chose our friends, it was always clear that everyone chose Chase. His loyalty, warmth and genuine spirit drew people to him effortlessly. He had a rare gift for turning connections into lifelong bonds and friendships into family.

Chase leaves behind a legacy of love through seven children, who he loved dearly: Chasity, Cierra, Cash, Cassidy, Cali, Chance and a stepdaughter, Kayla. He is survived by his father, Jeffrey; his beloved sister, Sydni (whom he affectionately referred to as Sid Nikki), stepbrother DeShawn, step-grandmother, Beverly and paternal grandmother, Dorothy. Others left to remember his life, his estranged wife, Tina Fowler and his loving friend, Cynthia.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Michelle Smith and stepmother, Crystal Howard.

Chase will be deeply missed by a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones whose lives he touched.

Though his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, his spirit lives on through the laughter, love and memories he gave so freely. Chase lived a life defined by a heart full of kindness, a little mischief and an undeniable shining light that will never fade.

Though his time with us feels too short, his impact is everlasting. His style, humor, generosity, and authenticity will forever remain in the lives he touched.
