David Ellis Rushton was born in Youngstown, Ohio on November 26, 1960 to T.J. and Annie Ruth Rushton. He was educated in the Youngstown Public School System, graduating from South High School in 1978. David attended Youngstown State University, and was a proud veteran having served in the Army Branch of the U.S. Armed Services.
Dave loved life, and he lived it to the fullest on his own terms. Dave loved music, dancing, deejaying and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also loved entertaining family and friends with stories and jokes. Anyone who knew Dave may have known of his partying ways and some of his antics and shenanigans. But there was another side to Dave. Dave loved his family fiercely, and above all he loved God. Dave suffered several health challenges for many years; however, his faith never wavered. When you visited Dave you were likely to get scripture and a sermon from him. Dave's perspective on life was rooted in his deep faith and love for God and his savior Jesus Christ. To paraphrase a Facebook post that Dave once wrote:
"Don't worry about me when I die and/or where I'm going. I confessed with my mouth and believe in my heart that Jesus is the son of God, making me saved. I don't worry about when I die - to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. If you know you are saved, don't let no one take that from you".
David became absent from the body and present with the Lord on Monday, February 2, 2026. Dave's parents T.J. and Annie Rushton preceded him in death. His brother Harry Rushton, and sisters Dorothy Little and Shana Stubbs also preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory; Children: Davie Kayon Miller and DeAndre Marquise Mayo; Siblings: T.J. Rushton (Jackie), Verna King, Charlotte Hooks (Jimmie), Nelda Sims, Michael Rushton (Elaine), Samuel Rushton (Janet), Bryant Rushton (Gina), Bruce Rushton (Fresha) and Shelisha Rushton. Dave also leaves treasured memories with a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Extended Family and Friends.
