Della Mae Horton, 78, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Grant Hospital, at 5pm. Della was born on April 22, 1947, in Lexington, Mississippi to Clemon and Rosetta Jones.
Early Life and Education
Della Horton attended Lexington Mississippi Public City Schools. She went on to marry her late husband CF Horton. In union they had three children, then eventually located to Columbus OH, and added seven more children to this union.
Our mother began working in nursing until the family grew, then she became a stay-at-home wife, and mother, taking on the responsibilities of a superwoman. Mom picked up the hobby of playing bingo where she would meet some of her longtime friends. After her husband (our dad) of 39 years became sick, she made a wifey and loving decision to cut out her hobby and become his full-time caregiver. Our mother of 10 children was really good at nurturing and being attentive, until his untimely passing on June 12, 2000.
Mom would spend most of her time watching western movies and listening to old school Gospel and Blues. She was a believer of Christ, and strong supporter of her children. Mother would eventually meet her special friend Mr. Bill White, who would strike a fire in her life until she became ill and in her untimely passing, September 17, 2025. Our mother was a strong courageous wife, mother, daughter, sister and overall, a family and friend to all she knew, she was our Queen.
She is preceded in death by her husband, CF Horton; mother, Rosetta Jones; sister, Mildred Sheehy; brothers, Clemon Jones, Jr, and Clarence Sheehy; her daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Tim Squire.
Della leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Clemon Jones; sisters, Dorothy (Sammie) Walden; Aretha (Aaron) Parker, Lucy (Roy) Firley, and Rosetta (Antoine) Clark; brothers, Miles (Jennifer) Sheehy, Jessie Sheehy, Joe Sheehy, JB Sheehy, and James (Anita) Sheehy; daughters, Shniese Gloria Horton, Vertie Horton, Loretta Horton, and bonus daughter Vanessa Crosby; sons, Chuffus (Shonna) Horton, Bernard Horton, Rufus Horton, Darrell Horton, Antonio (Tina) Horton, and Markee Horton; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; two longtime friends, Veronica Agee and Donna Stomikand; a very special friend, Mr. Bill White.
