Dennis A. Baker passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, twenty-four days after his 77th birthday, surrounded by his loving family.
Dennis was born on January 20, 1949, in Hancock County, Georgia, to the late Louie and Sarah Brown. He was later adopted by Albert and Mildred Baker.
At an early age, Dennis accepted Christ and united with St. John CME Church in Detroit, Michigan. He later became a devoted member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Mansfield, Ohio, where he faithfully served as a Trustee until his illness.
Dennis attended Detroit Public Schools, where he excelled in track and field. His outstanding athletic achievements earned him a scholarship to Kentucky State College.
In 1982, Dennis began his career with the Department of Corrections at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, as a Correctional Officer. Through dedication and hard work, he advanced through the ranks, serving as a Supervisor, Deputy Warden, and ultimately Warden.
In 2008, Dennis retired from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. He later became the Executive Director of UMADOP of Mansfield, where he remained employed until his illness.
In 1983, Dennis married the love of his life and soulmate, Cynthia (Hutcherson) Baker. Together, they built a life filled with love, travel, dancing, family gatherings, and fellowship. Dennis and Cynthia were well known for hosting their annual Fourth of July family and community picnic and celebration. 43 year of marital love and happiness.
Dennis leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Cynthia (Cindy) Baker; two daughters, Kelly Baker of Detroit, Michigan, and Rayna Hutcherson of Mansfield, Ohio; grandchildren Karieem Baker of Detroit, Michigan, and Jazzlyn Greene and Christian Greene, both of Mansfield, Ohio; along with three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters, Mildred (James) White, Cynthia Nixon, Marcia (Ronald) Robinson, and Linda Brown, all of Akron, Ohio; Aunt Erma Dixon of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Albert Stanley Brown and Lewis Brown Jr.; and his sister, Donta Brown.
Dennis will be remembered for his strength, leadership, faith, and deep love for his family and community. His legacy of service and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
