Dorothy Jenkins

Oct 5, 1938 — Aug 7, 2026

Dorothy Jenkins was born on October 5, 1938, in Rembert, South Carolina, to Isaac and Sylvia Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Isaac (AL), David (DJ), and Clifton (Cliff) Jenkins.

Educated in the Sumter County school system, Dorothy graduated in 1957 from Ebenezer High School in Dalzell, South Carolina. Though she never had biological children, she embraced a maternal role after the passing of her mother in 1960, helping raise her younger siblings with patience, strength, and unwavering love. Her nieces and nephews affectionately crowned her "Matriarch", a title she wore with quiet pride.

Dorothy began her spiritual journey at Union Baptist Church in Rembert, where she faithfully served in many ministries including the Missionary Ministry, the YWCA Choir, and Sunday School. In 1996, she relocated to Columbus, Ohio, and became a member of Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Season Citizens and the Adult Women's Sunday School Class, continuing her walk of faith with the same dedication and grace she carried throughout her life.

Dorothy was known for her gentle discipline-never a paddle, but the unforgettable "pinch" that kept many in line.

She was also a gifted storyteller, especially when sharing family history, ensuring that memories, lessons, and legacy were passed from one generation to the next.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted Sister and Caretaker: Mattie Jenkins; her Brothers: Henry (Geneva) Jenkins of Rembert, SC, and Marvin (Janie) Jenkins of Newport News, VA, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.

Her life was one of service, faith, family, and deep compassion.

Dorothy's presence was a blessing, and her impact will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
