Earnest Lee Hill

July 11, 1946 — May 4, 2026

Columbus

Earnest Lee Hill, affectionately known as “Noon,” was born at 12:00 noon on July 11, 1946, in Camden, Alabama to the late Lillie Mae Lawrence and Charles Lewis. He was the second oldest of thirteen children and was known for his warm spirit, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family.

Earnest graduated from Camden High School in 1964. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving our country during the Vietnam War. His service reflected the courage, strength, and dedication that would continue to define his life.

After returning home, Earnest pursued dental technician studies at his local community college, beginning a career in dentistry that he truly loved. For more than 25 years, he worked as a dental technician before retiring to spend more time doing what brought him the greatest joy: being surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Noon was incredibly proud of his family and loved each of them deeply. He especially enjoyed spending time at his daughter and son-in-law’s home, where good music, laughter, and family memories filled the room. Whether listening to Al Green or Marvin Sease, grilling for loved ones, or cheering on his favorite teams during “the ball games,” Earnest brought joy everywhere he went.

Noon was a devoted fan of the Michigan Wolverines football and basketball teams, even after moving to Ohio, and NEVER missed an opportunity to talk sports. He also loved gathering around the table to play card games, especially tunk. Noon was never one to accept defeat quietly. He would jokingly say, “You gone lose a good player,” every time he lost a game…a phrase that became one of the many unforgettable sayings his family and friends will forever cherish.More than anything, Earnest was a beacon of light. His presence was comforting, his laughter unforgettable, and his love UNCONDITIONAL. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and family that will continue for generations to come.

Earnest was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mae Lawrence and Charles Lewis; Step-Father Curtis Lawrence Sr.; his beloved Aunt Wyhoma Mendenhall; sisters Rosalind Lawrence and Alice Heath; and brothers Percy Lawrence, Curtis Lawrence Jr. and Freddie Hill.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Fatima (Virgil) McDaniel, Cedric Wheeler, and special bonus daughter Michelle (Wayne) Porter; his siblings Janice Tindle, Diane Lawrence, Yvette Lawrence, Gwendolyn Lawrence, Marquita Lawrence, Veronica (William) Cole, Dewayne Lawrence, and his big brother Curley Lewis. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Tanoia (Antony) Porter, Teauna (Nathaniel) Glinsley, Kenny Martin, Tevin Martin, Montez McDaniel, Dominic Jones Jr., Elijah Edwards, Kelandra Gibbs, Marki Gibbs, Nevous Gibbs, Cedric Wheeler Jr., Danielle Wheeler, Satidra Wheeler, Domon Kates, and Joal Hobson; along with 29 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who loved him dearly.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Noon’s love, laughter, and legacy will live on forever in all who knew him.
