Freddie Lee Morgan was born on June 17, 1939 in Logan, West Virginia to the union of Mary Ella Blockson and Andrew Lester Morgan. He was the 2nd oldest of 5 children and at 11 years of age his family moved from West Virginia to Columbus, Ohio.
He graduated from Central High School and attended evening classes at Franklin University.
His love for basketball, developed at a young age, allowed him to work for the city were he refereed many seasons of youth and adult basketball games all the while occasionally running a full court press with family and friends whenever and wherever they could find the time to play . The infamous “Byers All-Stars” a female softball team became a part of his love for sports and provided the opportunity for him to umpire in the summer leagues. He assisted with the Eastside Tigers Little League football team and later developed his love for running and would go on to run three 26 mile marathons.
He use to say “he was a jack of all trades and a master of none” demonstrated by some of the positions he held at Western Electric and Timpken Roller bearing just to name a few and as a teenager he began working on cars and later managed a BP station and the F&R Auto Service. He also worked at the Ohio Penitentiary, and the Southeast Correction Facilities (FCI) involved in the “Scarred Straight” program and later retired as a Captain in 1999 from the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
After retiring, in 2003 he married Carol Ann Alexander and was an active member of the “Columbus Old Timers” association. His love for the Cleveland Browns football team was memorable… win or lose, as a season ticket holder, he often traveled to the home games living life one day at a time
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carol Alexander-Morgan and her sons Gary Salone and Roosevelt (Diana) Mitchell; Children: Freddie L. (Michelle) Morgan, Tina L. Morgan and Angeletha M. (Frederick) Rogers, along with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brother and Sisters: Willie (Hattie) Morgan, Margaret (Earl) Littlefield, Mildred Moore and Roberta Morgan. Special friends: John Clifton and Ted Alexander. Cousin: Juanita O’Kelley. A host of loving relatives and friends.
