Graze Edgar (G.E.) Embry. The Embry-Woods family lost a distinguished senior statesman in Graze Edgar Embry. Graze, referred to as G.E. and Erby was born Oct. 5, 1929, in Springfield, OH. He passed on Mar. 20, 2025, in Norcross, GA. Graze was the last surviving son of William Lewis & Alice (Cunningham) Embry and grandson of Gabriel Lewis & Laura Ann (Wood) Embry.

Mr. Embry retired from a distinguished Navy career. Highlights of his career are:

 Oct 9, 1947 - Enlisted in the U. S. Navy.

 Oct 13, 1947 – Sent to Great Lakes Navy Training Center, Illinois, for recruit training, then sailed to the South Pacific and China Seas.

 Mar, 1948 & June, 1949 – Assigned to the General Anderson, a transport submarine.

 1950 – Assigned to the USS Toledo warship in Hawaii during the Korean War. The warship was positioned for protection against surprise attacks.

 1958 - Graze, an Engineman First Class, was part of an amphibious training exercise at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. He served aboard the USS Perch, a transport submarine. His squadron supported firing ships and a Marine Corps brigade landing force supported by Marine Corps aircraft.

 1962 - Assigned to the Navy Recruiting Station in Cincinnati, OH for a tour of duty as a recruiter.

 1965 -1966 Assigned to the USS Cutlass as the Chief Petty Officer-in-Charge of the engine rooms by virtue of his exemplary leadership. His projects were characterized by his thoroughness of planning and attention to detail during execution. His inspiring and tireless devotion to duty, personal integrity, and courage throughout his tour on the USS Cutlass was in keeping with the highest traditions of Naval services.

 1966 until retirement, he was assigned to the Navy Recruiting Stations in Columbus and Dayton, OH for a tour of duty as a recruiter.

 1977 – Retires from the Navy after 30 years of service. After his Navy career, Graze worked for Bauer Brothers, Springfield, OH, and retired from General Motors in Dayton, OH.

 G.E. had his pilot license and enjoyed flying his airplane. After obtaining his pilot license he started G.E.E. Aerial Photography. He also enjoyed building things which included a small airplane in his garage and later flew it successfully.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his seven brothers, Lewis, Clinton, Floyd, Claude, Graze Eldon, Lawrence, and David. Four sisters, Thelma Minney, Willie Mae Hood, Ida Frances Embry and Jennie Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Paul Embry, Columbus, Ohio, and William L. (Kay) Embry, Snellville, Georgia, Four grandchildren, Kendra (Keya), Kristopher, and Keion Embry all of Atlanta, Georgia, and Paul Michael Embry, Columbus, Ohio, and four great- grandchildren, Jayla, Jaden, Kaylah, and Kai all of Georgia. He also leaves behind a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
