Helen Reeves

January 6, 1944 — March 14, 2026

Helen Reeves, born January 6, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio, gained her Heavenly wings on March 14, 2026.

Helen spent her early years growing up on Goodale Street in the historic “Flytown” neighborhood, later residing on Peters Avenue in the Milo-Grogan community. She attended Olentangy Elementary School, Everett Junior High School and Central High School.

As a young woman, Helen had a love for sports, especially basketball and baseball, and she enjoyed playing both. In her adult years, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life sitting on her porch, keeping a watchful and friendly eye on the neighborhood and connecting with those around her. She cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always welcoming them with love. Though true to her sense of humor, she would send them home after a few hours.

Helen had a deep appreciation for music and entertainment. Her favorite song, “Wildflower,” originally performed by the Skylarks, was often played on repeat. She also enjoyed watching her favorite television programs, including The Haves and the Have Nots, Ruthless, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Channel 6 News and World News. A devoted sports fan, Helen proudly supported The Ohio State Buckeyes basketball and football teams, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Known for her generous spirit, Helen possessed a heart that gave freely and without hesitation. Her compassion was evident in countless acts of kindness, including providing over $200 worth of Christmas gifts to a mother in need for her son’s Christmas; just one example of how she consistently showed up for others. Whether it was a neighbor, friend, stranger or family, Helen treated everyone as her own. It is no surprise that she was affectionately known as “The Robinhood of the Neighborhood.”

Helen loved fiercely and without condition. She embraced family and friends alike, making no distinction between them—if you knew her, you were hers. She was a woman of great humor, strength and resilience, always ready to stand up and fight for those she loved. After a lifetime of caring for others, she now rests peacefully, free from all burdens.

Helen’s vibrant spirit, unwavering love, and unforgettable presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Helen was preceded in death by her beloved parents Herman Sr. and Lena Kate Reeves, who taught her and her siblings to always stick together and always be prepared to take care of each other. She was also preceded in death by her only brother Herman (Big Bopper) Reeves, Jr. and oldest sister Florence Rogers-Adams.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Delma Gunnell, Grandchildren CanDon Marsh, CamRon Gunnell; Great-grandchildren Tionna Marsh, Jaionna Allen, Jayceion Jordan, Mariana Jordan, CamRon A Gunnell, Jr., Camy Gunnell and Camari Gunnell; sisters Rosa Rodgers, Pearl Washington and Diane Ford (Thomas); Godson Terry Kendricks; longtime friend Quintina Ross and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
