Hiram “Harmey” Joseph Gore, Sr. was born on April 14, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Bishop Lester L. Gore, Sr. and Mary R. Brown-Gore. He went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday March 31, 2026.

At an early age, Hiram gave his life to Christ and was baptized by his aunt the late Overseer Charlotte Gore-Little at Saint James Pentecostal Baptized Church. Later in life, he reaffirmed his walk with Christ under the leadership of Pastor Gloria J. Burge at Times of Refreshing Christian Church.

Hiram attended Columbus City Schools and went on to hold various positions throughout his life, including employment with Bob Daniels Chevrolet, Dan’s Drive-In, Federal Glass, and Borden Dairy.

As a young man, Hiram was very athletic and enjoyed running track, as well as playing basketball, football, and boxing. He also developed a lifelong love for fishing, often spending cherished time with family and friends by the water.

Gifted with his hands, Hiram was a self-taught builder who had a passion for construction. As a young boy, he assisted his uncles in building Saint James Pentecostal Baptized Church, a contribution he carried with pride.

Hiram built countless lifelong friendships that became like family. One of his favorite gathering places was White Castle on South High Street, where he and his friends met regularly to share laughter, stories, and special moments. He had a passion for finding hidden treasures in local thrift stores and inherited a deep love for classic cars from his father, becoming a collector himself.

Hiram was a devoted and loving grandfather who made his grandchildren a top priority. He faithfully attended their events and ensured they always felt his presence and support. Weekends spent at his home were filled with joy, creativity, and unforgettable memories. He especially loved music and family time; spending hours with his children and grandchildren playing the guitar, singing, dancing, and watching the kids laugh and enjoy themselves. These moments brought him great joy and created lasting memories for all who were present. Known for his generous spirit, Hiram had a big heart and was always willing to help others. He also had a keen sense of style and took pride in his appearance. He often guided the men in his family on how to dress with excellence; coordinating hats, shirts, ties, suits, shoes, and handkerchiefs with great attention to detail.

Hiram was known as a straight shooter, he spoke what he meant and meant what he said. Though his words were direct, they always came from a place of love and sincere intention.

He was preceded in death by parents: Bishop Lester L. Gore, Sr. and Mary R. Brown-Gore; son: Hiram (Lil Harmey) J.
