Ira Taylor

February 23, 1957 — January 7, 2025

Deacon Ira George Cottrell Taylor (I.G.) beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, church member, gained a heavenly home with our Lord at the age of 68.

I.G. was born February 23, 1957 the six child of ten children, to Willie Mae Whitehead Cottrell and Lonnie Cottrell in the Mississippi Delta where he was raised on a small farm outside Leland, Ms. in the Black Bayou Community by his loving parents Julius and Rosie Lee Butler Taylor his sister Ruby Taylor was raised in the home along with I.G. 

I.G, confessed Christ and was baptized September1968 at the family church Sunrise M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. F.T. Turner. After relocating to Columbus, Ohio he became a faithful member and served as an ordained deacon at Faith Mission United Holy Church until his health failed under the leadership of Pastor Daisy Milner, who loved and supported Ira and family until his transition.

I.G loved to cook and brag on his children and grandchildren, I.G. pinned handwritten prayers in his quite time with the Lord, that we can read for years to come he prayed that we all be saved.

I.G. was educated and graduated from the Leland High School class of 1977, was employed by the City of Greenville until 1985, when he moved his family to Columbus, Ohio. He became an employee of the City of Columbus later an employee of the Columbus School District.

I.G. is proceeded in death by his parents Julius and Rosie Taylor (Willie Mae and Lonnie Cottrell Sr.), four brothers Linnie and Lonnie Cottrell, Sylvester Taylor and one granddaughter, Vanessa.

I.G. leaves to cherish his memory Three daughters LaShunda (Terrence)Hill, Tina (Richard) Mitchell, Tonya (Anthony) Richardson and One son Derrick (Lois) Richardson. I.G. leaves seventeen precious grandchildren fourteen greatgrandchildren. Seven sisters, Ruby Gordon of Starkville, MS; Betty (Virgil) Young, Mary (Leroy) Luckett, Willie (Eddie)Moore, Dorthy, Bobby, Debra all of Milwaukee, WI. One special nephew Sylvester Taylor Jr, Chicago Ill, God sister Alice Kennedy, nieces, cousins, family and friends. Ira will be greatly missed.
