James H. Kendrick Sr.

James H. Kendrick, Sr. was born March 16, 1933 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to George and Lucille Kendrick. He peacefully transitioned this life on August 29, 2026 in the comfort of his home. James relocated to Columbus, Ohio with his mother as a teenager. He completed his education at Central High School in Columbus, Ohio taking night courses to receive his diploma. James was married to T. Gertrude Horsley and to this union three sons were born. He loved family functions and would often participate in sport activities with his sons. Often you could hear him brag about his grandsons and their accomplishments Anthony on the football field, Derrick in the band and his granddaughter Tannisha at piano recitals.

James served in the U.S. army at the rank of Private 1st class. Upon his discharge, he was employed at the South Texas Drywall company supplying dry wall for new built structures. Later he worked on the line pouring hot steel at the Ohio Malibu Steel Casting Company until it closed. He then was employed at Port Columbus Airport operating heavy equipment where he served for 28 years before retiring. James was a member of Hebrew Baptist Church under the leadership of his Father-in-law, Rev. William Horsley. While there, he served in the Male Chorus, Seasonal Chorus, Church bus driver, and any other duties he was asked to perform. Later he united with Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Jerome H. Ross, Sr. where he worshiped until his health began to fail. Although he was not a member of any ministries, he was supportive and in attendance at most of the functions of the church. Dad "K" was very supportive of his son Elder James H. Kendrick, Jr., a faithful attendee at the Hour of Power Wednesday noon-day Bible study; and would support him and the Male Chorus when and where ever they would go to minister; in and out of the city.

He was preceded in death by his wife: T. Gertrude Kendrick; parents: George and Lucille Kendrick and sons: Robert and Andre Kendrick.

In 2016, James Started a new chapter in his life. He was united in holy matrimony to Sue G. Brown. They enjoyed traveling, cruising and any activities with family and friends. They also loved to watch the game shows on T.V. and liked to see who could answer the most questions on Family Feud. Brother "K" as he was called by the Gibbs family, enjoyed the gatherings with the Gibbs family, laughing, talking, and eating. Especially, watching the domino games that they would play every Tuesday. Everyone who knew "Dad K" loved him. He will be greatly missed by all.

Left to cherish his memory is his Loving and Devoted Wife and Care-Giver: Sue Brown-Kendrick; Sons: Elder James (Shirley) Kendrick, and Keith Brown; Brothers: Edward (Pat) Kendrick, Nate Gibbs, and Bruce Gibbs; Sisters: Natye Cammon, and Belle (Larry) Hillman; Grandchildren: Anthony (Lori) Kendrick, Derrick (Tara) Kendrick, Tannisha (John) Ray, Robert Featherstone, and Kejuan Brown; Great-Grandchildren: Anthony, Ayzha, El-Ryck (Kiara), Dionna, Michael Kendrick, Tristen, Linda, and Olivia Ray and a host of other relatives and friends.
