James Moody departed his earthly vessel and joined his Savior in Heaven on February 2, 2026. A true soldier of Christ, James lived his life in service of God and Family. Led by his heart, James was active in the community, from feeding the homeless, and serving at community toy drives, to helping a stranger on the street, James never turned a blind eye to someone in need. Always with a smile and a kind word.
Along with serving, James was passionate about poetry and engaged in numerous spoken word events and shows. One of his personal loves was drama, and he was able to showcase that talent participating in local productions and as part of the New Birth Christian Ministries Drama Ministry. Poindexter Village held his heart, growing up there, and living his last days there. The neighborhood KNEW him, grew him and mourns his loss. Despite adversity, and above anything else, James loved the Lord and we are comforted that he is resting now.
James Moody is preceded in death by his brother-Tamingo Moody and daughter Zahara Moody.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Linda Moody, parents Carl Slappy and Jean Moody Scott, son Tyler Moody, granddaughter Zahara Moody and stepdaughter Janae Wilder, along with all his siblings-Oscar Payne and Gene Payne (Columbus, OH) and the Slappy Family brothers and sisters-Carl Jr, Baye, Camara, Joe, Anna, Carrie, Ida and Clara (Memphis, Tennessee).
Carlos and The Moore Family, along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends.
