James O. Edwards

James Otis Edwards was born to Tom Edwards and Eula May Edwards on August 12, 1950. The GOOD LORD called him home on August 23, 2023.

Otis was born in Indianola, Mississippi on Clay Street where he suffered severe burns in a house fire as an infant. Otis seemed to suffer from that event, but it was later determined that he had Downs Syndrome. Despite this traumatic experience and condition, he helped raise his nephews. Otis was always joyful and pure in heart, a truly gentle soul. He was consistently present in his family members lives. Before his nephews came to Mississippi, he was present with his mother helping any way he could. When his mother needed him to help take care of her grandchildren, he was present with them while she worked. When his mother got sick, he was present to provide aid and comfort. In her final years, he was present as he had always been. He was always present, smiling and bringing joy to every occasion. Although he is not present today in body, he will always be present in Spirit and in our hearts.

Otis leaves to mourn his brothers, Arthur Shavers, Cornelious Shavers Sr., Columbus Edwards; and nephews Alban Shavers and Cornelious Shavers Jr.

For his brothers, Otis was more than a brother, he was a best friend. For his nephews, he was more than a guardian, he was an example of how to treat people, to be kind, to be forgiving and how to love life despite what happens to you.
