Jarvis Jean Polk Marsh of Mansfield, Ohio, was born to the parentage of Richard Lee and Doris Elizabeth Polk on November 3, 1942, in Sherman, Texas. Jarvis ascended to her eternal home on Monday, May 26, 2025, at her home in Mansfield, Ohio. She moved to Mansfield, Ohio, following her marriage to Eddie Frank Marsh in 1973.
Jarvis Polk Marsh was a 1960 graduate of Fred Douglass High School, where she was active in athletics, including running track and playing basketball. After graduating from high school, Jarvis pursued a career in cosmetology, becoming a licensed beautician. In addition to employment as a hairdresser, Jarvis also worked at Wilson N. Jones Hospital as a dietary aide. Her employment in Mansfield included H.L. Reed Department Store and Meijer, where she retired.
Prior to moving to Mansfield, Ohio, Jarvis was a member of Friendly Church of God in Christ, Sherman, Texas, where she was very active, including singing in the choir and working with the YPWW. In the city of Mansfield, Jarvis was faithful and active in her church, The Oasis of Love Church of God in Christ. As part of her involvement in various ministries, she was President of the Women’s Department, Sunday School teacher, choir member, Senior Usher Board, Assistant Christmas Program Coordinator, and Nurses’ Board. She was also the Adjutant/nurse to First Lady Shirley Jordan and was one of the mothers of the church.
Jarvis leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Elder Gerald Polk (Joetta) of Mansfield, Ohio, and David Polk (Angela) of Sherman, Texas; Daughter, Iris Medrano of Sherman; Granddaughters Lashana (Brian) Steele and Sylvia Hopson; Grandsons Dantreyus Hopson and Neiman Hughley, and a number of great-grandchildren. Jarvis is also survived by sisters, Barbara Howard of Sylmar, CA, Mary Johnson of Dallas, Lavora Spencer of Tyler, Cheryl Polk of Houston, and Yana (John) Bullard of Sherman; Brothers James Polk of Dallas, Carl (Diane) Polk of Hewitt, Ben (Pamela) W. Polk of Sherman, Jimmy (Janet) Polk of Sherman; Leonard Tina) Polk of Sherman, and Terry Polk of Sherman.
Jarvis Marsh is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Marsh; Daughter, Erika Kay Polk; Parents, Richard and Doris Polk; Sister, Donna Polk; and Brother, Billy Polk; Bonus sisters include Maynell Foster, Sister Shirley Jordan, Dorothy (Dot) Campbell, Bonnie Crutchfield and sisters in law Bessie Marsh, Elizabeth Adkinson and Anne Ruth Weaver; brother in law Ben Marsh.
