Jewel Brown Strickland (twin) was born on March 15, 1947 to the late Homer D. and Jessie Mae Brown in Cedartown, Georgia. The community of residence is called Chubbtown. Jewel was the 12th of 13 children She was a very kind and loving child growing up with her siblings. She had many friends and didn’t meet any strangers. She loved people.
Jewel was baptized at Cubb Chapel Methodist Church, at an early age. She sang with her older sisters in “The Brown Sisters” singing group; singing Gods prasies and lifting up the name of Jesus.
Jewel was educated in the Georgia School System and graduated from Cedar Hill High School in 1965. Jewel married her childhood sweetheart John Strickland in 1966 and was blessed with one son, John Jr. Jewel left Cedartown in 1967 and relocated to Akron, Ohio.
Jewel attended the Akron Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio. She was employed as a secretary in the office of the Akron School Board from 1971 until retirement in 2004. She was offered this job because of her volunteering skills and time donated to the school. Due to her working for the school system she was blessed to have summers off and would travel to Cedartown to spend quality time and caring for her mother She traveled each summer from 1968 untill her passing in 1990.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, spouse John Strickland; brothers, Dupree; Cedartown, Georgia, Michael, and Franklin; Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Mary Frances, Josephine, Jeannie. Lucy and Ann, all from Cedartown, Celestine, Columbus, Ohio.
Jewel leaves to cherish her memories her beloved son, John Strickland; brothers, her twin James (Elaine) Brown, Jerry (Sandy) Brown; sister, Arretta Hutchins, special nephews, Jerry Sewell, Jarrett (Shakia) Brown, Curtis and Cedric Brown, special friend, Barbara (Bobby) Burton as well as a host of other nieces nephews, family and friends.
Jewell will be missed by all who had the pleasure of loving and knowing her.
