Jodelle Elaine Mixon

Jul 15, 1952 — Sep 20, 2026

Jodelle Elaine Mixon, affectionately known as “Jo”, “Jojo”, “Jodee”, and “Bellsy”, was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 15, 1952 to the late Audre and John Mixon. She attended Milo Elementary and Monroe Junior High School and was a graduate of Central High School and Franklin University.

She worked for Model Cities and Tomorrow’s Education Now, one of Central Ohio’s first college access programs in the 1970s. She was later employed by and retired from the State of Ohio. After retirement, she used her business expertise to help guide local minority businesses in setting up office management systems. She helped friend Gary Roan with many properties including J.A.C. McDonald's franchise and Kozy Korners. She was instrumental in helping him get The Macon Hotel on the Historical Registry. The last company she helped was Ransom Demolition. There are too many others to list.

She will be forever loved and remembered by her sister; Michele “Shellee” Mixon; brothers John “Benjii” Mixon, Jeffrey “Butch” Mixon, John E. Ellis, and Khaden Brown; Aunt, Pastor Sarah Clark; nephews Daryl Mixon and Wade and Eric Ellis; nieces Dia Mixon, Ashlee, Amber, and Amanda Holman, Claudia and Nadia Shockley-Mixon, and Mi Marie Moore; great niece and nephews, Daijah and Carter Mixon. And Avi Mixon, her constant source of joy!

She has many loving relatives and friends in Ohio and across the country, too many to name. All of whom carried a special place in her heart. Her calls from cousin Teri in Maryland, with friend “Big Mack”, always made her smile and laugh.

Jo loved spending time with dear friends and there was sure to be good food and joyful laughter.

She shared a special bond with chosen sister, Tina (Lamont) Ransom; lifelong besties, also known as,“the Divas”: Jakki, Vivian, Theresa, Adrienne, Gwen, Pat, and Myra; “the A-team”: Marie and Linda; and soul sisters, Brendablue, Rochelle and Cynthia.

She believed that it takes a village to raise a child and throughout her life she blessed many children with her immeasurable love and fierce encouragement. “Little Frank” Calloway was like a son and held a special place in her heart. The lessons and the love she shared with all the kids will be carried and passed on forever.

Her unwavering faith was ingrained in every area of her life. Years ago, Jo began praying weekly with a group of women that live in Cleveland, Ohio. They prayed and worshiped every Saturday evening by phone. She valued community and connection. She built a caring relationship with her neighbors, David, Sinatha and Joyce. She donated monthly to a variety of causes and non-profit organizations, including the Mid-Ohio Food Collective and PETA. She absolutely loved dogs!

She offered a helping hand to anyone and everyone that she encountered. In times of need, she was the first person her family and friends turned to. She even wrote a book called Loving Gestures, which featured ways to brighten someone else’s day. She was straightforward, but every word was steeped in love and endless support. No one showed love the way Jojo showed love. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective in Jodelle's memory.
