John was a proud veteran where he served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and received a Bronze Star. He worked many years as a Computer Programmer and retired from DCSC (Defense Construction Supply Center) after 27 years of service. While there, John received numerous Employee Recognition Awards and was recognized by his peers for his hard work, integrity and leadership.
John accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for over 65 years. He loved the Lord and lived a life rooted in faith and service. Some of the meaningful ways he served was as a Trustee, choir member of the Male Chorus, Usher and being part of the Brotherhood Fellowship which he dearly loved.
John always had an encouraging word and made everyone feel seen and valued with his one word greeting of 'hello, how are you." Whether leading prayer, visiting the sick, or lending a helping hand, John embodied the love of Christ in all he did.
John was a dapper dresser, he loved good food especially his hot dogs and cheeseburgers. He was a great story teller and would talk about things you didn't even know about or didn't even want to know about. He especially loved talking to you about politics and had many lively conversations about all that was going on in the world. His side bar conversations and comments with his nieces had no filter at times and that was when he would love to debate with you about it.
He loved his television programs and watching sports. Nothing gave him more joy than watching his beloved Cleveland Browns win a game or The Ohio State Buckeyes beating Michigan. He was such a devoted fan. In his last years, John faced numerous physical and health challenges but never lost faith to keep going. He would often tell us 'I am gonna fight'. He loved his family and was fiercely loyal and protective. He simply would want to be remembered as a son, brother, uncle and friend.
John is preceded in death by his parents Dawson and Alice Chandler and sister Ann Kinney. Now the family unit is complete.
He is survived by his three nieces Lisa Kinney, Lynn (Wayne) Kinney Radford, Leslie (Henry) Stanford, great nephews Warrick Stanford and Jerrick Stanford, and to all who knew him. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a Blessing.
