KENNETH WAYNE BARNETT, was born on March 8, 1959 to Willie Barnett, Jr. and Mattie Lee Barnett in Laurel, Mississippi.He departed this life April 26, 2025 at Pickerington Methodist Hospital in Pickerington, Ohio. He was known by all as "Kenny Wayne".
Kenneth was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Wayne Jenkins; his parents, Mattie and Willie Barnett, Jr; sisters, Christine Diane Jones and Wilhemina Barnett Lawson; nephews, Robert Gates, Cezaray Garner and Carlos Garner; great-grandchild, Javaris Jaxon Hatten; great niece: Tyi U'nique Kinzyah Barnett; and aunts and uncles.
Kenny moved to Columbus, Ohio at a very young age and lived there until his passing. Kenny completed his elementary education at Sullivan Elementary School and later attend South High School. Kenny later married Lori Jenkins Barnett and to that union was born four children. Kenny worked as a Maintenance Man for Columbus Metropolitan Housing and later, he worked in maintenance for Saint Rita's Home for the Aged. He later relocated back to Laurel, Mississippi with his wife Rita Haines Barnett. He worked as a Maintenance Man for Lone Oak Apartment Complex. Later Kenny and Rita return to Columbus, Ohio where he lived until passing.
Kenny was known for having fun, joking around and dancing. Kenny endured a lengthy time of sickness and suffering. During that trying time Kenny accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior by the guidance of Pastor Jimmy Bunch of Laurel, Mississippi.
Kenny leaves to cherish his memories; wife, Rita Haines Barnett; three (3) children and one exceptional niece and nephew: daughter, Amanda Strickland and son Kevin Jenkins, both of Columbus, Ohio, son, Korie Jenkins of Miami, Florida; Exceptional niece, Gloria (Harold) Tarr and Exceptional nephew, Christopher (Melissa) Barnett both of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Minister Barbara Deyamport of Laurel, Mississippi, Brenda Blackmon and Betty Jones both of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Curtis L Gates of Laurel, Mississippi; aunts, Allie Barnett and Katherine Barnett Summerall; uncle, Frank (Lolita) Barnett all of Columbus, Ohio; ten (10) grandchildren; four (4) great grandchildren; and all of his nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
