LaDorothy Jones was born November 27, 1937, to the late Malachi Jones, Sr, and Persephone Marie Miller-Jones in Midnight, MS. She was the second oldest of 12 children. She was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, where she took tap dancing. She was joined in marriage to William H Hunter, Sr, and three children were born from this union. Jodi, William, Jr, and Richard.
LaDorothy was a member of the Temple of Faith/Maddox Memorial COGIC in Mansfield, Ohio, until she relocated to Memphis, TN in 2012. While there, she actively served in many roles. These included a choir member, a Sunday School student, and secretary, a Prayer warrior of the Tuesday morning prayer team, and the Junior and Senior Mothers’ Board.
LaDorothy loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was affectionately known by many nicknames. La, Aunt La, Aunt Lady, Mother, Mom, Grandma, Granny, Mama La, Sis, and Beauty, which was given to her by her father. LaDorothy joined the Liberty COGIC in 2012 under the leadership of Bishop William S Wright, Sr., who appointed her to the Mother’s Board. She was an active participant of the Tuesday Noon Day prayer and always believed in the power of prayer.
She leaves to celebrate her home-going and to cherish her memories, her daughter Jodi, and her youngest son Richard (Melita). Her granddaughter Tiffany, who played a special and active role in her caregiving for the past two years. Sisters Thomasine Wallace of Columbus, Ohio, Alexis Selman of Mansfield, Ohio, State Supervisor Sharon(Superintendent Louis) Blevins of Mansfield, Ohio, three brothers Herman Earl (Terri) Jones of Columbus, Ohio, Thomas Levon Jones of Mansfield, Ohio, and Jerome Jones of Canton, Ohio. Eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A special cousin, Lillian Jones of St Louis, Mo. Many nieces and nephews and a multitude of those who called her Granny. Also, her Liberty and Maddox Memorial COGIC families. Mother LaDorothy Hunter was preceded in death by her parents, Malachi and Persephone Marie Jones, one brother, Malachi, Jr., four sisters, Juanita, Lucille, Esther(Queenie), Joyce, and her oldest son, William, Jr.. She served well, she fought a good fight, she kept the faith, she has finished her course, and she is now transitioned to be with the Lord.
