LaRon Shelley was born on July 22, 1976, and peacefully transitioned from this life on January 2, 2026. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose life was marked by love, laughter, faith, and unwavering dedication to his family.
LaRon was known affectionately by the nickname “LA,” given to him by his brother Reggie. The two shared special nicknames and a close bond growing up.
LaRon was born in Columbus, Ohio, where he spent his early years. He attended Centennial High School and later continued his education at Sinclair Community College. From an early age, LaRon was instilled with a strong work ethic; his stepfather, Bishop James H. Jones, taught him the trade of upholstery and emphasized the importance of earning a living through hard work and diligence, as exemplified by tasks such as throwing newspapers, cutting grass, and shoveling snow.
In 2003, LaRon accepted Christ and was saved at Church of the Living Faith in Action. In August 2012, he relocated to Dayton, Ohio, where he joined BAM Redemption Center, now known as Transformation Worship Center, under the leadership of Bishop Christopher L. Heard.
LaRon was united in holy matrimony to Lashanda McFalls on September 1, 2010. He profoundly loved his wife and cherished every moment they spent together. Through this union and blended family, LaRon was blessed with children and grandchildren whom he adored. He was a proud and devoted grandfather, finding joy in spending time with his grandchildren, drawing, laughing, and creating cherished memories.
LaRon was a dedicated employee at Fuyao in Dayton, Ohio, until his passing. He had a profound passion for music, soul food, fishing, and singing, often being referred to as the life of the party. Those closest to him understood that his love for family was unwavering and that he brought immense joy and laughter to every setting. He will be remembered for his generous heart, charismatic personality, diligent work ethic, and unshakeable devotion to his family. His legacy continues through the numerous lives he impacted and the love he shared so selflessly.
LaRon was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bishop James H. Jones; his grandmother, Helen L. Hines; his aunt, Odessa Wilson; his cousin, Marc Hines; his bonus son, Craig R. Poythress IV; and his bonus grandson, Xavier Grundy.
LaRon will be remembered and cherished by his loving wife, Lashanda Shelley; his mother, Pastor Margaret Jones; his father, Reginald Shelley Sr.; his son, LaRon Shelly Jr.; his brothers, Reginald Shelley Jr. and King H. Hines Sr.; his sister, Tasha (Kenyatta) Williams; his aunts, Jackie (Jeff) Payne and Gwen Hines; his uncles, Johnny (Betty) Hines and Odell Hines; his bonus children, Demetriua (Brian) Grundy, Craniesha Poythress, Lanetra Poythress, Roshanda Howard, and Roshawn Howard; his bonus grandchildren, Isaiah, Mariah, Zavion, and Zariah Grundy, Blessen Daniels, Knowledge Poythress, Lariah Shelley, and Zy’Miir Howard; special friends, Tony McFalls, Jessie Ramirez, and Alex Ramirez; and many other relatives and friends.
