Larry A. Taylor Jr.September 5, 1968 – July 23, 2026Larry Alonzo Taylor, Jr., affectionately known as “Herbie,” passed away surrounded by the love of his family and children. A lifelong resident of Columbus, Herbie’s presence, humor, and dedication touched everyone who knew him. Herbie was the beloved son of Betty J. Taylor and Larry Taylor, who continue to cherish his memory. He was a devoted father, a loving brother, and a treasured cousin and nephew. Family and his two dogs were the center of his world, and he carried his roles with pride, loyalty, and unmatched devotion. After graduating from Eastmoor High School and Northeast Career Center Herbie built a career rooted in service and protection. He spent many dedicated years with the State of Ohio Department of Corrections, where he earned a reputation for reliability, professionalism, and quiet strength. He later continued that commitment through his work in private security, bringing the same steady presence and sense of responsibility to every role he held. Herbie’s calm confidence and joyful spirit made him unforgettable — people recognized him instantly around Columbus, and they loved stopping to greet him, share a laugh, or simply feel the warmth he carried wherever he went.Herbie found joy in the simple moments that brought people together. Family game nights were his favorite, and his laughter, competitive spirit, and playful banter made every gathering unforgettable. He especially loved playing Bingo, a game that brought out his bright smile and easy humor. Those evenings — filled with cards, numbers, and the sound of Herbie’s voice celebrating a win — will forever live on in our hearts. He loved cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and never missed a game. He’d been a Cowboys fan for as long as anyone could remember, and watching football was one of the things that always brought him joy.Herbie’s life was defined by his kindness, his easy smile, and the way he made people feel seen and supported. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet compassion — the kind that stays with you. To know Herb was to love Herb. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
