Eternal rest came to Lee Andrew Cornute, Jr. on Monday, June 9, 2025 at the age of 85. He entered this world as a force of nature on November 11, 1939, born to Lee Andrew Sr. and Octavia Cornute, in Huntington, West Virginia.
Lee graduated from Columbus East High School ('57) and retired from Lucent Technologies / AT&T in 1999 after a long career in telecommunications. He was a prolific competitor spending time playing basketball (East HS, Old Timers), tennis, chess, reading, traveling, and of course playing cards.
Lee A. Cornute, Jr. is preceded in death by his father and mother, Lee Andrew Cornute Sr. and Octavia Gardner. Beloved by his family, he is survived by his wife, Phyllis who he affectionately referred to as "Felicia"; his children, Michele Wilson, Sheri Cornute, Daryl (Candace) Cornute, Kendra Dowdy-Cornute, Kara Dowdy, and Kreeshon Lyons; his special cousin, Tiffany Days; his brother, Richard Porter; best friend, Marcus Anderson; in-laws, Samuel (Colleen) Hisle, Mary Lynn James, Jane Ann (Oscar) Smith, Janice (Charles) Frazier, and Lucy Hisle.
Lee adored his 10 grandchildren: Brandon Cornute, Tarren Cornute, Tai (Ca'Rita) Cornute, Tahnelle "Tony" Cornute, Brendon (Ashley) Cornute, Darren Cornute, Jessica Cornute, Rian (Ke'aira) Randle, Camaryn Cornute, and Ja'el Cornute; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends, and card playing partners.
Lee was a kind-hearted man who loved his family and enjoyed a good time. He was a founding member of Columbus Whist Player's Society where he enjoyed playing whist, chess, spades, poker, and pinochle.
Win, Lose, or Draw, Lee was a faithful member of the Central City Browns Backers.
" God saw you getting weary,

Lee Andrew Cornute Jr's fighting and enduring spirit will continue to live on.
