Leila "Bunny" Harris

Leila “Bunny” Harrise Harris, 73, transitioned from this life on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Leila was born on October 30, 1952, in Wilmington, Delaware.

Leila was a Jack of all trades, but master of none (her words). But for most of her life, she made her living cooking, and she was great at it! She loved nothing more than her family and seeing her children happy.

She was so strong, kind, giving to a fault, compassionate, true to the bone, and truly a Phenomenal woman who was loved by everyone she met. Her optimism was matched by few, and she wanted peace for everyone, always. She always promoted peace, was known in her family as the “Peace Maker,” and she never said goodbye when ending a conversation with you, always saying “Peace”. She loved her music, she loved to dance, and most of all, she loved her family.

Leila was preceded in death by her parents, Simon Sr. and Geraldine Loretta Matthews; her sisters, Barbara Victoria Matthews, Maria Antwionette Matthews, Iris Friends (Matthews); her brother, Clifton Troy Matthews; and James Reid, the father of her children.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, James Lammotte Matthews and Kirk Allen Matthews; her daughter, Kashema Simmone Matthews; her sister Regina Laverne Matthews; brothers, Simon “Stink” Matthews, Jr., Gerald Daniel Matthews, Lamotte Kurt Matthews, Anthony Victor Matthews; grandchildren, Olivia Adaya Matthews, Ahmed “Rah-Rah” Surah Francis, Andrew James “AJ” Matthews, Salih Nazae Francis, Cameron Lammotte Matthews; great grandchildren, Haven Ellory Francis, Rylo Nazae Francis, Nova Naomi Matthews, Lowen Ellara Francis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends.
