Linda Watters

July 8, 1948 — April 27, 2025

Linda Raye Watters, age 76 of Columbus, Ohio transitioned from this life to be with our Lord on April 27, 2025. Her peaceful passing was bathed with love from her family and caregivers at Mount Carmel East Hospital. Linda’s determination to wait on the Lord’s call was a testament to a life lived with strength, courage and faith.

Linda was born on July 8, 1948 to Raymond and Elaine Phillips. Thrilled with the birth of their first child, Elaine wrote a poem for Linda which included the line, “All the angels in Heaven seem to be whispering your name.” She was member of Abiding Faith Baptist Church and was baptized on February 13, 2000, by the late Reverend Wesley E. Greenfield, Sr.

Linda was a 1966 graduate of Whitehall Yearling High School. Of all her classes, Linda most enjoyed Home Economics where she excelled at sewing and all things related to food preparation and cooking. As the oldest of seven children, Linda often took charge of the household while her parents worked. She utilized the skills and knowledge she learned in Home Economics to make sure balanced meals were prepared, the dishes were washed, and everyone’s chores were done. Linda’s macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs, potato salad and lemon pie became the most requested food items at family gatherings and she was often teased by her siblings about her fondness for pork chops.

Reading became one of her favorite past times. She particularly liked reading biographies and novels with an historical context. In addition, Linda and her mother shared a passion for collecting dolls, nurturing houseplants and tending to her flower and vegetable beds.

Linda worked at a number of restaurants and was last employed at the Tomasco Mulciber plant. She loved her co-workers and was concerned that she would lose contact with them when the plant closed; they were all her friends. That’s because Linda truly never met a stranger. She frequently started conversations with store clerks, servers, and people just walking down the street. She would refer to you as her friend whether she talked with you for two minutes or two hours.

Linda was the beloved mother of Roxanne Marie Obey and loving grandmother of Devan Raye Obey, Ramon Anthony Obey and Cameron Antonio Obey. She is survived by her sisters, Leanne (Art) Smith and Marlene (Ray) Miller and her bothers, Jeffery Phillips, Michael (Pat) Phillips, Raymond (Jill) Phillips and Steven (Cheryl) Phillips as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

During her final hospital stay, Linda’s life was given a new purpose. It was during that time that she poured out her love to all who sat and visited with her and, most importantly, she became a living witness that nothing, especially life itself, is not over until God says it’s over.
