"Lula Mae Price was born on April 2, 1935, in Stoneville, North Carolina, to Lottie M. Smith and Jesse B. Zeigler. She was the youngest of nine children.
At a young age, Lula found the love of her life, James O. Price, whom she married on April 14, 1951. Together they built a loving union that spanned 78 years, beginning their life together in Columbus, Ohio. There, they raised six children: Larry, Renee, Deborah, Stephen, Tamala, and Timothy.
Having lost her own mother at the age of two, Lula carried a heartfelt prayer: "Lord, teach me how to be a mother." That prayer shaped her life's calling. Beyond nurturing her own children, she devoted 32 years to caring for others through her work with the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, opening her home and heart to foster youth. Her compassion and dedication were recognized on October 5, 2011, when she received the Community Star Award for her extraordinary care-especially for a beloved young man known to many as Carl. For Lula, motherhood was not just a role, but a lifelong calling.
Her nurturing spirit extended into her faith. A devoted follower of Christ, Lula faithfully served her church communities, including Reeb Hosack, New Hope Church, and New Birth Christian Ministries, where she was honored as a "Mother" of the church. She found joy in serving others through cooking, especially during bereavements, offering comfort through her meals and her well-loved sweet potato pie.
Lula was the heart of her family. She cherished hosting Sunday dinners, holidays, and celebrations, creating lasting memories for generations. Her love lives on through her children, eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Whether through slumber parties, laughter-filled gatherings, or quiet moments on the porch blowing bubbles and teaching prayers, she poured love into every generation.
After 91 years of a beautiful and purposeful life, Lula Mae Price entered eternal rest on Mother's Day, May 10, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband: James O. Price; her sons: Larry (Valarie) Price and Timothy Price; her son-in-law: Robert Lamar; her brothers: Herbert, Charles, Herman, and Jesse Zeigler and her sisters: Marie Adkins, Nancy Stidoms, and Anna Price.
She leaves to cherish her memory her Brother: John Zeigler; her Children: Renee Lamar, Deborah (Dave) Austin, Tamala (Frank) Thomas and Stephen Price; her Daughter-in-Law: Stephanie Price; her Grandchildren: Shawn (Mary), Scottie, Emery (Shardae), Ebony, Tiwana, Gabrielle, Tiffany (Ron), Jordan (Lauren), Sierra (Chuck), and Taylor (Josiah), along with a host of Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great-Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and dear friends.
