He was educated in Columbus City Schools; beginning with St. Peters Head Start. His favorite teacher was, Ms. Phylis Flood, whom he loved and talked about all his life. Upon entering high school they begin to call him "Big Mace"

Maceo loved music of all kinds. He could always be found singing, dancing, rapping, or making rhymes and poetry. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of St. John Baptist Church under the late Pastor Winston King. He sung in the children's choir, the youth choir and the Jr. Male Chorus. Sometimes while waiting around, he would get on the piano and he taught himself to play as he sang "God Has Smiled On Me".

He was preceded in death by his father: Deacon Emmett B. Burton; six sisters: Loretta Perrin, Rosetta Mitchell, Barbara Washington, Louise Hague, Linda Thomas, and Jackie Burton; his Godmother, father, and brother: Lucille (Waddell) and Kahlil Bass

He leaves to remember the good, the bad, and the ugly, the sorrow and the joy, the craziness and all the fun things that made him who he was..... His loving Mother: "Queen" Nancy J. Burton; four Brothers: James Burton, Frank (Renee) Burton of Columbus, Ohio, Edward (Michelle) Burton of Chillicothe, Ohio and Zantika Le'Varr Burton of Orient, Ohio; one God Sister: Kim Bass and an Adopted Aunt: Jackie Ransom who showed him with love constantly; a Close Friend: Norris Bass Columbus, Ohio and a host of Nieces, Nephews and other relatives and friends.
