It is with profound sorrow and deep love that we announce the passing of our cherished matriarch, Marilyn Louise McCarty, who departed this life on November 11, 2025. She was 82 years old, born November 20 1942 in Columbus, Ohio.
Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A woman of unmatched generosity and unwavering kindness. She dedicated her life to her family, nurturing generations with unconditional love that shaped the very foundation of who we are. She was the heart of our home - the one who always pulled us together. Her mannerisms, laughter, and giving soul will echo in our hearts forever. Marilyn was an incredible woman who made everyone feel seen and treasured by offering herself fully and selflessly. Her home was always a place of welcome, her presence a source of peace, and her love, the rock on which we stood.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Wilma Juanita VanFossen and Carl Frank Burnham; brothers, Jack, Jerry, and Richard Burnham; adoptive parents, Arthur and Sarah Anne Cochran; her husband of over 40 years, Hargis McCarty; their first child; and lifelong friends, Lois Sharpe, Judy Knight, and Sharon Farley. She is survived by her loving family; children, Bryan and Karen McCarty; grandchildren whom she adopted and raised, Britney McCarty and Oceana (Jose) Maher; and great-grandchildren, Gage, David, Gavin, and Joseph. She is also survived by her brother Roger (Judy) Ruble and adoptive sister Barbara Mehler.
Her greatest joy came from her close bonds with friends and family. Those who knew her would say she was the kindest person they had ever known. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit lives on in the values she instilled and the love she gave so freely.
We will carry her memory and legacy of love and strength with us always.
