Marvin Cooks

March 11, 1958 — October 28, 2025

Marvin Cooks, Jr., passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2025, at the age of 67. He was born on March 11, 1958, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Marvin Sr. and Ida Cooks.

Marvin attended school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Casper, Wyoming, and graduated from Mifflin High School here in Columbus, Ohio, in 1976. Shortly thereafter, he met his future wife and the love of his life, Janice (Mann). They became the proud parents of 3 beautiful daughters.

Marvin served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1981. He proudly served in the National Guard from 1976 to 1981. He was employed by Twin Valley Behavioral Health and retired in 2011 after 30 years of service. After retirement, he continued to stay active by working for Enterprise Car Rentals for five years.

Marvin united with Bethany Christian Church, Columbus, Ohio, where he served faithfully until his passing. He rarely missed Wednesday Night Bible Study. Initially, he attended with his wife Janice, but continued faithfully after her death. They could be found on many Saturdays attending the church and grounds, a labor of love they shared. He held many positions at the church including Deacon and Usher. Recently, he began reading announcements, giving the invitation, and collecting the offering. He was dedicated and willingly gave his support wherever it was needed.

Marvin and his wife, Janice, were foster parents for Franklin County Children Services for more than 10 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He will be remembered as a kind, loving, patient father and husband who encouraged his children to pursue their goals.

He leaves to mourn three beautiful daughters: Jessica, Ivorie, and Stephanie; and son-in-law, James Owen. He was the doting grandfather of (4): Kayden Owens, Terione Woods, Kennedy Owens, and Taelor Phillips.

Marvin is survived by sisters, Elnetta (Jerome) Jones and Carrie (Darrell) Simpson (Deceased), and Maurice (Jennifer) Cooks. Also left to mourn are sister and brother-in-laws; Gena Stone-(Johnnie) Phillips, Larry (Harriett) Mann, Cynthia Mann, and a host of nieces and nephews.
