Maudie Mae Evans, age 74, of Columbus, Ohio, peacefully passed away at home on March 16, 2026. She was born on September 13, 1951, to the late Hubert Marshall and Laura Hill.
Maudie grew up in Jackson, Tennessee, and at the age of six, moved to Chicago, Illinois. She later pursued her education at Bliss College, where she graduated in 1977 with a certification as an Executive Secretary. She went on to build a dedicated career as an accountant with the Ohio Historical Society (now the Ohio Historical Connection), where she faithfully served for 30 years before retiring.
At the age of 18, Maudie married Gathen B. Evans, and they shared 27 years of marriage. From that union, she was blessed with two daughters, Yolanda James and April Logan.
Maudie was a woman of many talents and a true servant at heart. She was known for her exceptional skills as an organizer and cleaner, which she turned into a successful career. In her earlier years, she also worked in salons, expressing her love for beauty and hair care. Later in life, she became a licensed shampooer at Tickle Me Valore Salon, proudly working alongside her daughter, April. One of her greatest joys was witnessing her daughters and granddaughter working together, creating a beautiful family legacy within the salon. She also extended her gifts by assisting her sons-in-law, the late Marvin James and Mark Logan, with organizing and maintaining their business accounts.
She embraced opportunities for growth and connection throughout her life, serving as a consultant with Mary Kay, an ambassador with Total Life Changes, and most recently, within the last seven months, as a Farmasi influencer.
Maudie was a faithful and devoted member of Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies, where she served under the leadership of Dr. Bishop Sherman Watkins for over 35 years. She was a dedicated member of the choir and the hospitality committee. Her love for God and her church family was evident in the way she lived her life daily.
She loved to bake, especially her famous sweet potato pies and coconut pound cake, which became a cherished treat for many during the holidays. She turned this passion into a small business, blessing others with her delicious creations. Maudie also had a talent for refinishing furniture and enjoyed giving back through community service, including clothing and school supply giveaways with the Love N' Unity Women's Group. Through this group, she formed deep sisterly bonds with women from various churches across Columbus who united in service.
She truly loved the events and outreach held at Tickle Me Valore Salon and would often say she did not want to miss a single one. She found joy in crocheting, participating in her senior group, water aerobics, traveling-especially cruises-and spending precious time with her family. She was especially devoted to her daughters, always present, always giving, and always serving with unconditional love.
Her favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." She not only lived by this scripture but also instilled it in her children and grandchildren, teaching them to lean on faith in all things.
Maudie will be remembered for her sweet spirit, her kindness toward others, and her unwavering dedication to serving. Her life touched many, and her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on through all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Marshall and Laura Hill; and her siblings, John H. Marshall, Bob E. Marshall, Stella L. Taylor, Vera J. Williams (Gena), and Jeffery L. Marshall.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Yolanda James and April Logan; her cherished grandchildren, Vidal O'Conner, Kayla, Marvin James IV, Marglaceus Logan, Kenadee, Martiese, Kiana, and Marquez; her beloved great-grandchildren, Sebastian O'Conner, Alani O'Conner, Dakari James, Dakalin James, Kingston Logan, Lejend James, Anorah O'Conner, and Marlena James; her siblings, Marvin J. Marshall and Norva J. Barnett (Maurice); along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
