MELVYN Y. LITTLE, SR. was born December 2, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the union of the late Bishop Robert L. Little and Jennie M. (Flowers) Little and was the firstborn of nine children. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald K. Little and Robert W. Little, and four sisters, Joyce A. Weems, Sonja J. Gilbert, Kathleen N. Schwartz, and Mary J. Little. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Two sisters, Mary E. McDaniel and Jennie M. Taylor (aka Penni Taylor), now survive his siblings.
Melvyn relocated to Louisville, KY, in 1964 and became a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church under the pastorate of his late father, Bishop Robert L. Little, with his family and children.
Melvyn Sr relocated to Columbus, Ohio, in 1974 and, through church membership and family, gained many friends and acquaintances. He was a spiritually gifted gospel singer throughout the 1970s to the 1990s among interdenominational churches in Columbus. He became a member of the well-known Bernard Upshaw Singers as a lead singer and songwriter.
Melvyn Sr departed this life on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and leaves to mourn and commemorate his legacy in his children’s generational continuity, with faith, trust, and belief in God.
Melvyn Sr’s precious family legacy memories include Brian Allen, Melanie Yvette, Melvyn York, Jr (Gail), Michael Eric Little, and Marsha Elaine Bishop (Adrian), Anna Marian Little (former wife/mother of five); Jennifer Louise and Melinda Lee Little-Miranda, Mildred (Midge) Little (former wife/mother of two). Two Granddaughters: Jada Little-Sales and Sarah Little. Seven Grandsons: Melvyn Y. Little, III, Montrell B. Little, Alexander Miranda, Mikal England, Adrian M. Bishop, Isaiah F. Bishop, Aden M. Bishop. Two Great-Grandsons: Maalik D. Little and Maceo Montrell Little; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and relatives.
