Michael was born on January 5, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio. On June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and cherished memories, Michael peacefully entered eternal rest at The James Cancer Hospital.

Preceded in death by his beloved parents: James Smith and Vera Smith Armstrong and grandson: D'Ante Smith.

Michael's journey began in Columbus before relocating to Los Angeles, California, in 1964 with his mother, sisters, and brothers. The family remained in California until the early 1980's, when they returned back to Columbus Ohio. During his younger years, Michael attended Champion Middle school in Columbus, Ohio and finished at Washington High School in Los Angeles, California.

Affectionately known as "Rabbit, Mike and Home Team" he was a man of many talents and passions. He had a keen eye for photography, a love for roller skating, and a natural gift for dancing and singing. Michael was also skilled in mechanics and enjoyed working with his hands. Whatever he pursued, he did so with enthusiasm, determination, and pride.

Michael possessed a warm and welcoming spirit that drew people to him. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make others feel seen, valued, and loved. His kindness extended beyond family and friends to anyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing words of encouragement, or simply making someone smile or laugh, Michael left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

One of Michael's greatest joys was music. He deeply admired Smokey Robinson and could recite nearly every word to his favorite songs. Music was more than entertainment to him it was a source of comfort, happiness, and connection.

He leaves behind his loving Children: Dawon Smith Sr, Simone Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Colin Smith of Lancaster, California, Myesha Barnett Smith of Ontario California, LaShon (Tiana) Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lindsey VanPelt of McAllister, Oklahoma, Seanron Smith of Arlington Texas, Michael Malik Smith of Seattle, Washington and fur baby "STINK".

He is also leaves behind his loving siblings Brothers: James LaVette Smith, David Smith Sr., Gerald Smith, Shawn McKarn, and James "Hollywood" Smith Jr.; Sisters: Sherrie Smith, Javina Simpson, Sheila Mitchell and Deborah "Pooh" Lewis; his cherished 19 Grandchildren, six Great-Grandchildren; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Great-Nieces, Great-Nephews, Special Aunt: Joan Smith, Cousins, Special Friend: Felicia George, extended family members, and dear friends, including loved ones in Atlanta, Georgia and beyond.

Michael shared a meaningful chapter of his life with Yvonne Terrell. Their shared memories, deep respect for one another, and enduring friendship remained a cherished part of his life's journey and legacy.

Michael's legacy is one of love, laughter, strength, and compassion. He taught those around him the value of family, friendship, and perseverance. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the countless memories he created and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
