In fond remembrance of Levi Hill, born the eleventh of twelve children to the late Jake Hill, Sr., and Hattie Lee (Brasfield) Hill in Forkland, Alabama on October 15, 1945. Levi’s spiritual journey began with his baptism in 1959 at Ebenezer Baptist Church guided by the inspiring leadership of Rev. W.M. Branch.
Levi’s educational path led him through Morningstar Elementary School and he proudly graduated from Greene County Training School in 1962 in Boligee, Alabama. He then moved to San Francisco where he joined Matthew Zion Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher. Pursuing higher education, he graduated from San Francisco Community College. He relocated to Ohio in 2002 and joined Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. He has been a faithful member and held the position of Trustee and a member of the Information Technology team at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.
From the union of Levi and Katherine Ann, they became the proud parents of one son, Jamal Hill.
An avid sports enthusiast, Levi cheered passionately for the Golden State Warriors and the Las Vegas (Oakland) Raiders. His interests also extended to politics and cooking. Levi was caring and had a calming spirit and demeanor which made a lasting impression and impact on many.
Throughout his working years, Levi contributed his skills to various fields, including the United States Postal Service in San Francisco, Trans World Airlines and he ultimately retired as an electrician from PG&E.
Levi will be remembered as one who loved life. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Emmanuel, Lewis, Jake Jr., and Solomon, and his sisters, Lula Madison, Mary Ann Woods, Polly (Doll) Hill, and Tracie Hill Powell.
He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, Veronica A. Wilson, his son, Jamal (Tina), his grandson, Jeremiah, whom he adored and was the reason he moved to Columbus. Levi also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Hattie Whitlow, Emma (Jesse) Wiggins, Cynthia Davis, and a host of nieces, nephews,
relatives, and dear friends.
Relatives knew him as a sweet loving person and his nieces and nephews affectionately called him “Uncle Levi”. Levi loved all of those in his Starbucks family. This group of friends admired Levi and respected his wisdom shared over a cup of coffee.
Levi’s dedication to his faith, warmth and love for life will be cherished by all who knew him. May he find eternal peace and rest.
