In Loving Memory of
Nicholas "Nick" Andrew Bowman
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
- 2 Corinthians 5:8
Nicholas "Nick" Andrew Bowman, age 73, was called home to be with the Lord on January 29, 2026. Born December 15, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, Nick leaves behind a legacy of strength, service, love, and unforgettable spirit.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle E. Bowman and Walter R. Bowman, Sr., and his brother, Walter R. Bowman, Jr.
He is survived by his loving siblings: John Bowman; Bennie (Carol) Bowman; Bruce (Grace) Bowman; Herbert Bowman; William Bowman; Bernard Bowman; Lillian (Anthony) Harrison; and Cynthia Bowman Okafor. He also leaves to cherish his memory of his children: Nichelle D. (Kevin) Elder, Blake Bowman, Courtney L. Montgomery, and Nicholas C.D. Bowman, along with seven beloved grandchildren, who were a true blessing in his life.
After graduating from South High School in 1971, where he proudly played football and developed the competitive spirit that would define much of his life, Nick went on to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1974. Following his military service, he continued a life of dedication and protection as a police officer in Washington, D.C., serving his community with courage and discipline.
In 1981, Nick began training at World's Gym, where he discovered a lifelong passion for bodybuilding. What began as training soon became more than 45 years of dedication in the gym. He competed in shows for over 20 years, earning numerous trophies, with his final competition in 2003. While he was a fierce and disciplined competitor, Nick was especially known for his gift as a trainer and coach, motivating and uplifting others to push beyond their limits.
Nick was also a successful business owner for more than 20 years, blessed with perseverance, focus, and an unmatched work ethic. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a devoted animal lover and skilled dog trainer, finding joy and peace in caring for God's creatures. He was also a true lover of music, rarely without a favorite song playing in the background; music energized his workouts, lifted his spirit, and brought rhythm to his life.
Nick will be remembered as funny, charming, outgoing, talkative, charismatic, and yes, sometimes tough, but always real. Above all, he was a loving father, loyal friend, committed coach, and man of deep faith whose presence filled every room. His life touched many, and his influence will continue through the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the strength he modeled.
